Help! I am a beginner and I have no idea what charge controller to install to my 12v 300w dc generator! Please give some suggestions (i.e. links to where I can buy one) and how the heck I'm supposed to install it. I need one to go between my generator and my battery bank so that the battery does not try to run my motor! I will be very grateful if someone helps me out!

What DC generator are you using (name/model/link to product)?
Is the DC output of the genset regulated (i.e., 12.7 volts, 14.5 volts or what)?

here is the dc generator I plan on using:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12v-Volt-DC-300W-Permanent-Magnet-Motor-Generator-Wind-Turbine-PMA-Hydo-Pelton-1-/272261231810?hash=item3f6408b4c2:g:OMcAAOSwmtJXT0Q1
Here is a charge controller that I found:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ten-high-100W-200W-300W-DC-input-12V-Portable-Wind-charge-controller-for-DC-Wind-/371548657231?hash=item568206964f:g:pUwAAOSwQYZWxE0x
Please tell me if this combo would work.
Thanks

What is driving the PMA generator? A wind turbine, water wheel, gasoline engine or what?
IF your PMA generator is being driven as a wind turbine--Then the regulator you have picked could work OK (assuming all the hardware is designed correctly).
I am not a fan of small wind--To be effective, the turbine should be mounted 60 feet (20 meters) above the ground and at least 30 feet (10 meters) above any up wind obstructions (trees, houses, etc.). And you need to live in a pretty miserably windy area.
There are no performance curves/specifications for the PMA generator to allow anyone to design the blades for the turbine (need to know torque/RPM at speed/rated output at least). Many small PMA generators have to spin too fast to be very efficient when directly driven by blades.
I would humbly suggest solar panel(s) would be more predictable, less expensive, and last longer than a wind turbine project (unless you do not have good sun--Solar panels in shade/cloudy regions are just about useless themselves).
We do not do a lot of DIY wind turbine designs here--Some places that may have more information/better help would include:

Windmax HY-2000 2kW Wind Turbine (apparently, some vendors don't sell spare parts--just new turbines. However, the owner, Edward has been very happy with its performance from 2010-2012--BB. 5/31/2012)
And a general DIY Solar Builder site:
www.builditsolar.com
If you intend to do off grid power seriously--Then I suggest you define your loads first, then the battery bank, and finally the solar/wind/water power devices needed to meet your requirements. Just buying equipment on sale/that looks interesting, before you have a paper design, usually wastes a bunch of your money and time.
