Tristar MPPT FET FAULT (Short)

Hey All,
    Been working on my system and VERY recently started getting this error on my Tristar MS-45-MPPT remote panel.

FAULT FET SHORT. Spoke with tech support (Extremely nice and helpful!) they have decided to replace the unit. Evidently NOT the first time it has happened...though isolated.

Question.....will these failures affect the panels themselves? 

I have been having a run of bad luck with panels and am wondering if it may NOT be the panels themselves.

BTW: STILL looking for flexible back contact panels!

    Interesting. I have found the fets in the ts series controllers To be very sensitive to back emf. I have blown up several of them using certain dump loads where a trace c- series had no issue. Not sure if they have a similar issue with their mppt controllers?
