Chemists have developed a major improvement to capture and retain energy from sunlight, where the stored energy can last dramatically longer than current solar technology allows -- up to several weeks, instead of the microseconds found in today's rooftop solar panels.![yt-55RXpZM8](http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/sciencedaily/matter_energy/solar_energy/~4/yt-55RXpZM8)

My guess is that although the charge storage time is increased tremendously, the actual amount of power stored will be miniscule compared to what a useful battery pack could store.SMA SB 3000, old BP panels.

Your guess is as good as any, since this is so far down into basic research that they don't even know if it can be used in PV yet.
