Battery monitoring

Hi Everyone,

I'm a bit stumped as to the readouts I'm getting from my Victron Battery monitor.

Firstly, let me just explain how I've set it up. I have two 48V battery banks (4 12V batteries each) with 120ah C10 batteries. My understanding is that the system would then be a 240ah system, is this correct?

So anyway, going on that, I've set the battery capacity on the monitor to 240ah. This evening when looking at the different readings, I saw the SOC was 85% and the ah consumed -35.2ah. Doing some rough math to get this to the 50% DoD point, I get to 117ah, which must then mean that my understanding of the 120ah/240ah battery bank is wrong.

Any input/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Martin

what are the settings on your battery monitor? You will need to customize them to the bank to start and then adjust for previous use and age..... ps you need the 20 hr rate for use with solar...

I bought Omnipower Solar batteries, they are rated at C10, so I guess I'm stuck with that for now. We are not completely off grid as we still have utility power during night times. I typically let the batteries drain down to 80% SOC before switching back to the utility.

The only real setting to set it the Battery Capacity. All others seem to be fine with the factory default settings.

These are the batteries I bought if you want to have a quick look http://www.sinetech.co.za/opssolarbatteries.htm

OK according to this doc http://www.sinetech.co.za/ops_batteries/OmniPower-Battery.pdf your batteries are rated at 120 Ahr for the 100 hr rate and at 100 Ahr for the 10 hr rate so I am guess ing that for the 20 hr rate they would be ~ 102 - 105 Ahr
