That is a great story. I would like a van too. I plan on selling the old RV and my compact car. I will likely get a minivan like the dodge grand caravan or any of its variants (Honda odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Chrysler town & country). I actualy don't want to mount the panels on the top of the van because it would kill the millage. If anything I liked the dolly idea where i could roll it out on to a camp site or park for a refill through out the day. I'm still thinking about it.
Do you guys happen to know what thos thin solar panels are called? I've been looking but I can't find them. I wanted to check the price and see what could be done with them.
Thanks guys!

I'm still interested in the EV solar panel project but this is for an EV Van like the e-nv200 but it isn't out so in the mean time i could start with a gas van and begin to gather the panels and other material. should be fun ! -

Hi Guys,
It has been a while. I have still been thinking on the Car project and found some interesting ideas online! Basically it came down to the 'Solar Taxi' and the Prius Solar Panel trailer both found down below:
http://www.earthmagazine.org/article/around-world-solar-taxi
www.aprs.org/FD-Prius-Power.html - scroll down to the section with the Solar Panel trailer
I think these ideas are really great The top speed was 90 kilometers per hour. It appears it can drive up to 400 kilometers according to its Solar taxi website. After reading that article and seeing someone doing something similar for a prius makes me hopeful. The Trailer can even be stored inside the Prius when not in use!
Technology
The Solartaxi stands for a new way of mobility in cities. It fills a niche between a car and a motorcycle.
Economy: Open road with solar energy!
Ecology: Zero CO2 emission!
Always a reliable partner: High efficiency cells and an optimal support for every solar project.
A new energy solution provides independence: 6m2 solar cells on a rooftop yield power for 15,000 km per year!
Freedom: To drive up to 400 km with the latest ZEBRA battery technology.
Max. speed: 90 km/h
Light weight: 500 kg (+ 250 kg for thailer)
Energy efficient: Consumption of 8 kWh/100 km (equivalent of 0.8 l petrol / 100 km) -
