feature-0-1415984571386.jpg The world’s first solar bike lane is soon to be available for use in the Netherlands! The bike path that connects the Amsterdam suburbs of Krommenie and Wormerveer is a 70-meter stretch of solar-powered roadway set to open for the public this week.

    It's this kind of idiotic installation that gives solar a bad name.

    The best panels are perhaps 20% efficient, and this project they admit will produce 30% less than a standard install knocking the output down around 14% efficient maximum. An obvious waste of PV.

    Now why doesn't someone do something sensible like shade parking lots at malls with PV? Reduce heat in parked cars, cut down on weather infiltration, and produce lots of power right where and when it is needed.

    Look at the lovely trees that will provide SHADE for the cyclists! while they are traveling on the path also shading the panels! ...???? Probably designed by a committee...
