Re: What we hate to see
Another gem extracted from a local ad:
"These are not Gel batteries they are a true ACID BATTERY.THAT ARE BUILT TO LAST."
And here I thought gel batteries had acid in them. -
Re: What we hate to see
Another local ad for "Solar Heater Guide (Instant Download)"
"Learn to build THE Super Efficient, Super Durable Solar Home Heater!
Imagine having hot air automatically blowing into your home every time the sun is shining!
No cans
No wood
No dangerous tools
No Glass
Once you learn the design, you'll be able to build as many solar heaters as you wish! You can build them to almost any size you like."
And a link to spend your hard-earned $15 on this manual (although it does say money-back guarantee). No real clue as to what it tells you how to build, but I'll bet you can get the plans off Build It Solar for free. -

Yes, but that is Jello acid and not true acid.SMA SB 3000, old BP panels. -
Re: What we hate to seeYes, but that is Jello acid and not true acid.
Lemon, orange, or lime?
I'm sure cherry or strawberry wouldn't work. -
Re: What we hate to see
'Coot, could you put a year on these gems so we can see when they were first posted?
It would be nice to know how long these beliefs have been floating around...
btw, love 'em.

This stuff is basically "real time"; when I run across one I post it, so the posting date is pretty much when it cropped up. -
Re: What we hate to see
OK I though that you were cruising through some old mags etc...:p

That was the Pearls from the Past thread.
I know; I ramble a lot. -
Re: What we hate to see
Came across this one today:
"360 Watt Solar Grid Tie Inverter for use with Solar Panels only. 14v-28volt DC input range.
Simple plug and play operation with no batteries or controllers needed.
Outputs clean pure sign wave. Also cleans the waveform supplied by the electric company
to make your appliances run smoother and last longer.
Not like the ordinary inverters, the grid tied inverter lets you use the power generated
from the solar power at any time WITHOUT the need for expensive energy storage units. "
Wow! It performs miracles! And it's only $239 too. -

Re: What we hate to see
and if enough suckers buy into this it blackens the eyes of the solar industry and gives cause for utilities to be concerned. if utilities were really concerned they'd lobby wash dc to outlaw the sales of these plug n play solar kits.
i like the parts about cleaning up the grid and "the grid tied inverter lets you use the power generated
from the solar power at any time WITHOUT the need for expensive energy storage units." energy storage units? fancy words for batteries don't you think? -
Re: What we hate to see
Here we go again! Small kernel of truth padded out with lots of lies! One of the infamous whole-house PF correctors:
"Smart Saver (200amp) 40,000watt... Save Money
How does it work?
When Inefficient Motors In Your Home or Business Run:
YOU Are Billed (For That Inefficiency or Lost Energy) EVERY MONTH by your Energy Provider
Power is demanded from your Power Company
This demand of power goes through the wiring on your property.
Throughout This Process:
The Wiring in Your Home Heats Up & Strains the Motor and Wiring.
The Heat Generated from This Process is Called Watts.
When the inefficient motors in your home run, there is lost energy that
you are billed for by your energy company.
Our Smart Power Saving Unit:
Recycles (Otherwise Lost Energy/Watts)
Releases It Back To Your Motor When Needed
Reduces The Amount Of Heat On The Wires And Motors In Your Home or Business.
Thus Lowering Your Electricity Bill and Lengthening the life of your motors.
Do I Have Motors on My Property?
Central Air Conditioner
Pool Pumps
Heat Pumps
Refrigerator
Freezer
Washer/Dryer
Ceiling Fans
T-12 Fluorescent Lighting Ballast
Power Tools
Elevators, Escalators
Anything with Copper Windings That Create Electromagnetic Fields
You may have some questions. . . please let me know...
*****our Smart Power saver is Safety standards and Certified, UL & cUL****" -

"The Heat Generated from This Process is Called Watts."
You mean Ohm's law has been wrong all this time? Who knew?:roll:1220 Watts, 4 Evergreen 120 watt, 1 Eoplly 190 watt; 1 Sungold 200 watt; 2 175 Watt; M-Star 15A MPPT; C40 PWM; 6 105 AH AGM Configured to 315@24V

Re: What we hate to see
Recent ad I came across:
PowerFilm Solar R-14 14 Watt
This solar charger is brand new and has never been used
Ultra Light, Ultra Thin, Easy to Use.
PowerFilm solar panels are all monolithically integrated which eliminates the need for damage-prone manual connections of individual solar cells.
PowerFilm is made of silicon, a natural resource in abundant supply.
PowerFilm is Cadmium Free, unlike some other solar technologies, and performs well in diverse environments, including hot sun, and does not suffer from wasted over-voltage.
No actual specifications given, but it's one of those "rollable" panels.
$180 they want. I make that $12.85 per Watt. That's better than the $298.96 new price ($21.35 per Watt).
Pass.
