                    howdy,
all things being equal, are there any problems with combining a mono panel with a poly panel?

As long as the panels are similar ratings (if adding in parallel, the Vmp between them is within 10% or better; if adding in series, the Imp must be within 10% or better--I.e., Vmp 30/33 volts; Imp 8.0/8.8 amps).
If the voltages/currents are more different, you will have significant loss of output from your array and/or could damage panels.
