Double pole battery selector switch needed, need help finding one please!! :-)
I need a battery selector switch that swtches both plus and minus at once and not just one of the leads
It must be rated at 150 amps at 24 volt at least.
I have searched here and there and not been able to find anything but battery selector switches that only switch one lead like this one:
http://cdn.loveyourrv.com/wp-content/gallery/battery-install/battery-switch.jpg
I am so gratefull for those able to find such a wonderfull double pole selector switch :-) :-) :-)
It is because i need to completely isolate each battery from one another and thereby cannot use common minus

Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Welcome to the forum.
Inevitably someone is going to ask why you need them completely isolated in one aspect, yet obviously connected in another (i.e. the load) so it may as well be me. If you let us know what you're trying to do the bright minds around here may come up with another solution.
Otherwise you'd be stuck using two switches like the Blue Sea ON-OFF-ON type and having to remember to hit OFF on both before proceeding to ON.
Off the top of my head I can't think of any reason for negative isolation, even with different Voltages. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
I need complete battery isolation as the one battery is at times charging the other through a free energy generator i have build that i wish not to discuss but can be seen on my channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2luEznUO0_0
So i hope someone can find a double pole battery selector switch.
I have so far found nice double pole switch blade switches at 100 amps, but would like 150 amp.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131103430113?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Incredible it is so hard to find a double pole battery selector. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
I think I'll bow out. I've got too much education to believe in "free energy". -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
To bad for you, but hope someone can find such a selector swtich as that is why i posted this thread :-)
Thanks in advance to the one that is able to find such a switch somewhere.
Someboddy must have made one some place on this earth. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Well if you're a good enough fabricator you could modify a couple of the standard selector switches to work together by sharing a common shaft. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
About the largest DC rated breaker I could find quickly was this 250 Amp version from Midnite and Schnieder:
http://www.midnitesolar.com/productPhoto.php?product_ID=578&productCatName=Breakers&productCat_ID=16&sortOrder=3&act=p
http://www.solar-electric.com/installation-parts-and-equipment/midnite/cipr1/high-amperage-inverter-breakers/mnedc250.html
http://www.solar-electric.com/installation-parts-and-equipment/midnite/cipr1/high-amperage-inverter-breakers/scel250ampdc.html
Put two of them side by side and make a bar that could connect the two switch handles (gang) together.
Serious switch gear (have no idea of price):
http://Eaton.com/pringle
This company has a double disconnect plus a second connect position (some sort of 12/24 volt series/parallel switch). Either close enough, or call them to see if they do custom:
http://www.wirthco.com/battery-disconnect-battery-switches-knife-blade-switches-c-7_132_9-l-en.html
You might even try EBay for antique knife switches:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=vintage+knife+switch&_frs=1
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_kw=KNIFE+SWITCH+ANTIQUE
Pricing does not seem bad. Probably not modern rated and you will have to look around for 350+ amp rated--But finding old switch gear (such as contractor upgrading old building power systems) may be a good "one off" source for "obsolete" knife switches.
You might find something out of China:
http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=knife+switch
And there are these very large (and very expensive) fusable industrial disconnects (whole family of size/number of phases):
http://www.mrsupply.com/general-duty-c2503.html?LC=path
Perhaps somebody else has sources for battery disconnects.

Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
I was thinking about just that and have been on the lookout for some switches where the axle can go through, but fortunately i have not been able to find such neither, but hve found some i think i can do it with by drilling a hole through them and using a threaded rod instead of the build in screw that holds it all together, but it will require some effort.
So i am still hoping that some might just have seen this illusive double pole battery selector switch.
Thanks for your help! -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Thank you so much for the great effort in helping me out BB.
What i need is not disconect/master switches.
But Battery Selector switch that is double pole.
So that i can choose to direct either battery bank one or two or even both if possible to the ionverter, just like with nearly all battery selector switches......just double pole instead of single pole.
I have found the knife swith that is able to switch between two battery systems, but it is only 100 amp rating, i really need at least 135 amp, so was hoping there was a 150 amp switch out there ot this illusive double pole battery selector switch that is just like regular ones, just double pole instead of single pole.
perhaps i will have to make my own as Cariboocoot says.
But would really like to just buy one as it is a lot of amps and have to be study, but then Again perhaps there is a "stackable" battery selector switch i just have not found where you can take off the handle and the middle knob then fits right in the arse of the NeXT one in line with the knob on so i can attach them together.
But where?
Again so many thanks so far for all the help.
I really apresicate it as it is ahrd finding the right Things with all the sellers and possibillities, one can easily overlook.
Just try search on goole, ebay, dhl and what not there are thousands and yet thousands of souls selling switches today.
I find it somewhat confusing i must admit looking through all these sellers and hoped that there perhaps in this forum or another was a person that ahve just seen such a switch.
I can think of many scenarioes where one could use just such a double pole selector swith with 6 nice treaded connections on it, so it really must be out there somewhere. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Looked through aliexpress but could not find blade swith above 100 amps.
Eaton is very expensive, its like a Whole new ballgame where gold is not even enough, perhaps souls will surfice lolz, they are a bit over my overall expected pricetag for this lovely switch i just got to have for Things to Work as designed.
So i am now slowly going through ebay and then on my way to WirthCo that seem NOT as expensive as Eaton soul sucking prices, thanks Again for the very ellaborate and detailed help you have given BB.
It is very nce of you and thank you for that effort. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
These are nice, but don't know if they are almost $200 worth of nice per pole:
http://www.bluesea.com/products/category/Remote_Battery_Switches/ML-Remote_Battery_Switches
And they only have 12 volt and 24 volt versions.
-BillNear San Francisco California: 3.5kWatt Grid Tied Solar power system+small backup genset -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Around $160 to 200 per pole--Looks like it would sort of easy to convert with a bar between switch bodies.
http://www.waytekwire.com/item/44033/BATTERY-DISCONNECT-SWITCH/
Problem is cheap/simple battery switches really are not reliable at rated load... The plastic and contacts fail. And switching high DC current (over 12 volts) under load is an "experience" (DC arc welders are very nice for a reason--DC sustains arc much better than AC).
Not finding anything less than expensive to soul sucking expensive.... Sorry.

Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Thank you, i have now written to WirthCo and asked them for a solution for a fair Price that does not demand me signing over my soul or giving them both kidneys.
I found a knife switch product at theirs but there was not stated anything about the current capabillity and it was not Sealed, but raw and open, i think they will reply fairly soon and nice that they are mighty specialises and i like that a lot with all the pure copper and effort in overall quality of their many many builds.
I know Blue sea and also like their quality, perhaps i will write them about a solution after recieving answer from WirthCo :-)
I use Seaflo battery switch at the moment, it is also expensive and has a nice red push button so there is no where what so ever you can turn the selector by fault and it also loks it firmly in the chosen possition, very nice, just like Blue Sea products. -
Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Yes i agree it is an "experience"
However in most scenarioes i can turn of equipment when having to change over to the small 200 ah bank.
But if it is sucking from the 1950 ah bank at full inverter load, then surely i will be welding, so it is a good thing that i am well educated in tig welding amongst the many gifts of life.
We just need to find a wolfram switch then and inclose it in a transparent container with argon gas, then it is blinding blue rays for all to behold whilst switching..........surely that would be fun and tales to tell all round town.....but unfortunately whilst sanity still is in the front seat i wont do it!
Today i can turn the SEAFLO so quickly that the computer and tv does not skip one bit, it is redundant as it is if i am quick enough.
I could also use a smaller rated products and attach a Maxwell ultra capacitor across it to ensure redundant changeover and nearly no Wear and tear on the contact as the voltage differential would then be negotiable small for the contact to endure, but that is also expensive.
The waytekwire product is disconnect switches.
Perhaps i will end up buying one more SEAFLO battery selector switches and just use two hands if all things fail :-)
Thanks Again Bill, much appreciate your help.
One does not want to make mistakes with these kind of power levels and big very expensive batteries and weigths over a ton in total
So i have a open fire gas cocking and oven just beside it to the left normally, just 15 cm away from the first batteries.
Just to prove to myself that i am without fault or.......................dead
Have had 600 kg Sweet L16 truck batteries as night tables beside the bed and stoves with open fire right NeXT to them.
If one knows what one does, there are no dangers in life only fun. -

Bill, am I wrong in thinking that what is needed is simply a very large bypass switch?

Yes, a bypass switch, but for DC. I wonder if the metal interlocks that fit AC breakers to make a bypass switch would also fit DC breakers. Also, the OP needs double poles... that would make for quite an interlock... it would have to switch four breakers.

Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
A 400 amp SQUARE D D225N is current available on EBay for $999 and fuses are probably $40 each (guessing). New from a retailer may be round $1,300-$1,400 or so (guessing).
I do not understand your application. It is very seldom that you want to actually interrupt both + and - leads from a battery bank. And disconnecting the DC power (killing power) to transfer power between banks to a DC load is usually undesirable (most DC systems are designed to have power 100% of the time--You don't want to be "cycling" DC input power).
So, I would guess that a "Transfer Switch" is not really needed--But the ability to have A, B, and A+B so the original can go from A to A+B to B and never interrupt DC power to the loads.
Also--I am not a big fan of switching in/out battery strings on a "daily" basis. That usually gets to be a pain in the rear--And eventually somebody is going to do something "wrong" (such as "kill A before B is connected") or something similar.
Sounds like an unusual Battery Application where, for some reason, the battery bank cannot be charged while in operation (some lab equipment needs very low noise power sources--I.e., a battery where the actual voltage is not as important--just ripple/switching noise is the issue).

Oh... OK, a Bedini system.John Bedini is one of the true "living legends" of the Free Energy movement. Starting in the 1970's with Bedini Electronics, John has become one of the premiere audio and circuit design engineers in the world. A prolific inventor, his "Bedini Audio Spatial Environments" (B.A.S.E.) remains the pinnacle of 3-Dimensional audio sound processing. With numerous patents on audio systems, regenerative electric motors and battery charging methods, John is constantly pushing the boundaries of science and technology. His recent developments in the field of Crystal Batteries are another milestone in John's work to produce practical appliances that essentially power themselves.
We don't talk about these type of systems very much here--Folks can search for more about his systems.

Re: Dual battery switch needed, help finding one please!! :-)
Thanks Again.
I have now bourght this untill i can get one of higher rating:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131103430113?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
only 26 dollars, what a score.
But it is not a hermetically Sealed contact, so it is in the papers described with quite care that one should not place it in a medium that can explode lol.
It is anoying perhaps that i have to change over, but it is because my free energy generator only Works if there is nothing else connected to the batteries besides itself.
therefore i actually need to have one more of these nice 1950 ah battery banks, so that i can use one up while the other is charging.
So it is because it is a special scenariun with this generator i have build myself:
Batteries are desulfated and does not Wear as regular charging as it is Cold boiling, i repeat, not warm boiling but Cold boiling.
I have estimated the batteries holds up to four times longer with this technology.
It is a mix of multiple inventors where John Bedini is just one of them, i have also myself invented special technology for it.
I have given many of my free energy discoveried for free to PJK Book.
http://www.free-energy-devices.com/PJKBook2.html
I have given much for free to the book eventhough i have nothing and is poor.
Hope this 100 amp contact will hold for some time, even if i have to switch the switch every two years.
Offcourse if i had another home with more room and another battey bank i would make some Automatic change over with remote switch overs.
But that requires a lot of Money and room that i do not have as i am poor because of all the stupid people that cannot beleave anyone can figure out more than themselves and herrash what is able at much more than themselves by animal domminance based ways.

Ascanius, making personal attacks against another member, and certainly against a staff member of this site, is probably not in your best interest.
Personally, I question "Fee Energy" type devices as well. But, if it works for you, I am happy for you.Paul -

Just to be clear--Us "moderators" are not even staff--We are just volunteering our time here, just like all of the rest of the posters trying to help others.
Will lock the thread--There is really not much more to be said (there was another deleted post that really went off the deep end--We do not do that here).
