Signing up for another energy provider, Not so Good!

In Pa. You can sign a contract to buy your electric from a company besides your power co. Glad I did not get sucked in! Saw on KDKA tv in Pittsburgh that some that did are getting bills 3 times bigger than their previous rates. When they sign you up you might get lower rates for a time period and after that expires they charge what they can. I will stay with my original power co. whose rates are controlled by the PUC. They did the same thing with natural gas here. Of course the "independent suppliers" tried to sign everyone up for long-term fixed-rate contracts at the highest price. Shortly after the government "helped" us by allowing this NG prices dropped and anyone who had made the change lost out.

There is no way any energy supplier can "ride the main utility's back" and save you money. It just doesn't happen. Distribution costs are now the major portion of energy.

Of course they are: how else would politicians get elected?
