Shunt needed?

I have an outback FX2012 inverter protected by a Xantrex 250 amp circuit breaker.  The manual for the breaker shows that an MK 500-50 DC shunt is needed, however searching through the Outback documents I can't find any reference to the need for a shunt.  Is it internal to the inverter and not necessary, or do I need to install one in the negative input to the inverter?  Not really understanding it's function other than regulating current somehow, I can't figure out if it's necessary in this application.

    You do not need a shunt to limit current to the inverter. Shunts are mostly used to measure current into and out of the battery bank. They are used in conjunction with a meter.
