stand alone battery

If you were going to buy one 12v battery for power outages(charged by an AC battery charger) in the 300 amp range, which one would you pick...either one 12 or 2 six volts...considering long lastability and price.

I think you are going to have trouble finding a 12 volt that big. A pair of T105s wired in series would out out ~225 ah. You could bump up to the T-145 series for ~260 ah. The advantge of the T105s is that they are available nearly anywhere, certainly pretty cheap, Costco, Sam's Club, CT a golf cart shop.
Pretty hard to go wrong, IMHO,

The biggest 12V battery you can get that is a standard non-industrial size and at least somewhat common is Group 8D, about 250Ah. Group 31 is more economical, about 130Ah. For 6V, L16 is about 400Ah while GC2/T-105 are more economical, about 225Ah. GC-2 definitely the most common.
Beware of many AC chargers, especially of the automotive type.
