Basic Battery Question

I am trying to learn all I can about solar batteries and configurations. I have two questions..

Question: where would you place and what type of fuse would you use in a 4-6V flooded battery series/parallel setup equaling 12V?

Is it safe to set up a 24 V system with to 8-6V flooded batteries if fuses are used between each series hook-up?

Thanks

    Re: Basic Battery Question

Normally any type of battery bank has at least a single fuse on the positive battery post that is rated for the Voltage and expected current draw.
With parallel battery strings it is desirable, but not vital, to fuse each string separately so that if there is a problem with one of them the other can't dump its massive current potential to it and cause a fire.

You do not need to place additional fuses between batteries in series or on the negative side.
