    Now I know why you guys always recommend a set of "starter" batteries. Well, these are mine. I wanted to double my bank this summer... looks like I will need to use all new batteries.

    you better figure out what dragged those batteries down like that in the first place or you could repeat this exercise in battery replacing.

    they may be down,...and possibly out,.... yet they have told you a good story... but there is also more to learn..

    You will need a few tools to start .. Hydrometer, DVM, clamp meter, back-up charger

    And as a precaution, I note you describe this as a "temporary install". Beware temporary installs as they often have less-than-perfect aspects, such as wiring sizing/connections that have too much resistance. You'd be amazed at just how much trouble one "slightly loose" battery connection can be; works fine, until it's under load.
