12vDC motion sensors, is there such a thing?

We have some oddball panels here in Sierra Leone that I'd like to use to power some security lights around the hospital. I'd like to use straight 12vDC lights and have the lights operate on a motion sensor. Anyone have a source for 12vDC motion sensors?

good sensors unfortunately aren't cheap and 12vdc sensors are rare, but our host does carry this one.

You will find a few options at the following link:http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fhobby.htm -

those are fairly low cost. have you purchased any of those sensors? if so how long have they been lasting? -

I haven't tried these sensors. I have ordered LEDs from them and have been happy so far. -

Most of the wired motion detectors for alarm systems would run on 12 VDC and have NC/NO contacts. Just an example - http://www.geoarm.com/honeywell-wired-motion-detectors.html

Keep in mind that most alarm system motion detectors are strictly indoor rated, and the contacts are only designed for low, milliamp loads...in other words, you cannot control loads like lighting through them. you would need to also use an appropriately sized relay to handle the lighting circuit.
I too am looking for a 12 volt unit, for exterior use, but must be affordable.
I have built one using an indoor sensor w/ relay, protected by a outdoor enclosure, however the enclosure somewhat reduces the width of sensitivity. -

You could use this motion sensor with a 12vdc relay setup to switch the load.

I have quite a few of these solar powered units around the property, they may be worth considering (presuming you can get them in your locality): Solar powered security lights -

always check our host too.

From the point of view as an electrician, I can tell you that the company that makes those, RAB, has been my first choice for 120vac installs for many years... They are much more reliable long term than the cheapy brands, and they are much less sensitive to accidental triggering, so I'd assume their 12v model is of the same quality...
