I found some Trojan T-875 8V for less than half the price of new ones. I figured for the price it seemed like a good deal. Think they are around 6 months old. I was planning on using them really just as backups in case of an emergency. Maybe 3 of them for 170ah 24V or 2 strings for 340ah.
Do you think with minimal DOD they will last close to as long as say the 105REs?

Used batteries are always a gamble. Even at 6 months they may be junk. Unless you know the charge/discharge history, and or know the guy selling them, I would not pay much more than scrap metal prices for any used battery.
Just my opinion.

Isn't there a way to test them.
