How does one determine size of multi stage charge is needed. I am looking at IOTA 45 amp and 55 amp for a small system 340 PV watts, (4) T105's in 12 volt with Sunforce 2500 watt inverter tri star 45 controller. Trying to upgrade to proper equipment to save batteries.

It's based on your batteries' total Amp hour capacity. In this case four T105's in a 12 Volt configuration is 450 Amp hours. Trojan recommends a peak charge current of 10% of that: 45 Amps.

    Good choice! :D

So if I moved up to a pair of L16's @ 420ah does that mean I need a charger that exceeds 80 amps?

A pair of those L16's would be 12 Volts @ 420 Amp hours. If you changed out the four T105's to four L16's of 420 you'd have 12 Volts @ 840 Amp hours.

Nice thing about the Iota chargers; you can "stack" them. If you were to go with that big of a battery bank you could buy a second 45 Amp Iota and be good. :D
