Generator backup installation

I am about to hook up a generator to my Outback VFX3524. I purchased the Atkinson GSCM-mini to hook my generator into, but I am a bit confused by one of the diagrams and symbols. I understand the fuse connections, but there is a part that lists a " C " symbol that I just don't understand. If someone could look at the diagram and let me know what it means, I would appreciate it.

The diagram is on page 2 and its the connections for K1 and K2.

    the c stands for contact, as in relay contact. k = relay. go to the next page to see how various generators get wired to those contacts.

    OK.. "contact" sounds good. I thout it might be "coil" (relay coil) or something.

    The genrator is an ignition type start (option 3), so it was a bit confusing why there are 4 wires. for that type.
