larger size panels and Enphase

I'm confused. As I see, the Enphase M215 puts out 215 watts of power. (I believe I read that correctly). If that is the case, why do folks buy 240 watt solar panels or anything larger than 215 watts?

Roughly, on an average basis, GT solar will output around 0.77 to 0.82 of panel rated power (cold climates, panels will output more).

So, for a cost effective system, you could put on a 215 watt GT inverter, up to:
    • 215 w / 0.77 derating = 279 Watt Panel
You will lose some power at noon, cool days--but not that much usually on average (hot summer afternoons really reduce Vmp, dusty panels, etc.).

Now that makes sense. Forgot about derating factor. thanks Bill.
