Thorium Reactor - the silver bullet?

Check out this podcast on the forgotten nuke technology of Thorium Reactors.
Could it be the silver bullet for a future of abundant energy?
Anybody know anything about Thorium?

I'll always have solar for myself because I'm an independent cus, but this is the only viable idea I've heard of that could actually solve the energy problem.

I have this blog in my RSS reader (everything you could possibly want to know about Thorium):

Yes, its real and in the 60's and 70's there were operational prototype reactors
I have concluded:
The governments didn't want them as it doesn't provide material for bombs ( primary reason plutonium was chosen in the 1940's )
If our country had limitless, cheap energy that these could provide, you would eliminate 30%+ of all the jobs in the country that relate to the current energy structure. Think deep on this, all the ones with vested interest in the way it is now, lose out and massive unemployment.
India will likely be the place these first come online in the next decade ...

The bad news is, we should have started working on building Thorium reactors
during the mid 20th century. It's a bit late in the game now.
Too many backyards theses days. And NIMBY Rules.
Lightbridge(NASDAQ:LTBR) is the publicly traded Thorium promoter.
