Disconnected from Batteries & Controller

I need to disconnect my 135 watt panel from the controller and batteries. The panel will remain mounted to the roof, and in the sun for an extended period. Are there any issues with leaving the panel without any load for an extended time? Also, would blocking sunlight (black plastic) in any way extend the life of the panel?

Welcome lessismore as I see you've been a member for over a year and this is your first post.
It won't hurt your panels to be in the sun and not connected.

Re: Disconnected from Batteries & Controller
as said it does not hurt the pv, but remember it is still creating a power potential that should the leads short even momentarily the sparks could ignite something nearby. a fuse might help and would be a good idea, but would not stop the initial sparking and potential fire. -

Mount the leads in a secure manner, and you might put a fuse as Niel suggests at the panel end and you will be fine. The fire potential of 135watts is pretty minimal.
