how to reset TriStar MPPT 45

I just changed the PIN settings and now the 3~LED's are blinking.....I have pushed the RESET button but nothing changes. The manual says to RESET the unit....how do I do that?

I have the old non-MPPT TS-45 and I noticed there didn't seem to be
a quick way to reset an error, even with the LCD remote display.

So, I use a lap top PC plugged into the RS232 and force the reset coil,
    whatever that is.

In the manual, it says to remove all power, correct the problem (loss of sense voltage , RTS & etc)
and then it should reboot normally when you restore power.

(If your RTS is still open, it will boot up like there was no RTS and run without checking for it again).

I am guessing that if I disconnect power to the MPPT unit and then reconnect that it will reset...???

That's what the manual implies. Like if you change the dip-switches
(mine has them to select or change modes & etc), that will cause an error.
But, once it's powered off and back on, it comes up without errors.

Mine has an error just about every time I change anything when using
the software via the laptop PC. I just use the software control function to reset it.
It seems to be the only way to reset without cutting the power.
My only PV-cut off is outdoors, out on the tracking mount.

IIRC, the manual said the PV should be off before disconnecting the battery bank.
I guess if it's a night, you don't need to worry about the PV and just switch open a battery cable and reconnect it.

I don't have a disconnect on the PV and will just wait until dark and then remove one of the cables and then reconnect...

I have the TS-45 and a 2.5KW inverter connected to my 48v battery bank.
I just connected temporally, until I could find a good high amperage switch or disconnect block.
I'm planing to go shopping soon.. But when I wanted to work on it, and tried to use the fuse to break the circuit,
I realized that wasn't too smart. Because of the capacitors,
I got a bunch of sparks when reconnecting. Not cool..

But, I got the RTS installed and it works pretty well..
The install sheet for the RTS tells you to disconnect all power.

After it got dark then I disconnected the + coming from the PV and nothing changed, so I disconnected the + going to the batteries and reconnected it and the charger reset itself.....does this sound right??

Yeah, it should work ok in the morning.

There wasn't voltage coming from the PV. But during the day, PV should always be turned off first.
Especially on high voltage PV arrays.
My little 500w array puts out about 85 VDC with no load and that could be deadly.
You don't want any voltage on the terminals when you are working on it.

When you disconnect the battery, the micro processor in the TriStar
shuts down. Any error codes disappear. But, if they were caused by a
hardware problem (over-voltage etc), the error will re-occur.
You have to repair some problems before resetting.
The error messages should be in your manual.

I'll bet if you connect a PC up to the TriStar, you could reset it easier.
Does it have an RS-232 interface? Have you downloaded MS View?

    Cheers,
    Rich

At night, the solar panels are going to be at effectively zero volts--so disconnecting the battery side of the controller is all that should be needed--but no harm done.

Did the power down reset fix your problem?
