The advanced technology in the tug will result in an environmentally cleaner operation, one that will produce "significantly lower" emissions than conventional tugs.

Nitrous oxide and particulate matter emissions are expected to be reduced by almost 50 per cent.

The hybrid system can be retrofitted into existing vessels and has the potential to radically change the marine industry in North America
