Lightning Protection

What are your thoughts on Lightning Protection ?
Is it considered a necessity?

What is the best way to install some?

Do you install two delta protectors , one on the roof and another in the basement?

or would it be better to install a rod on the roof leading to the ground?

Here is one recent thread with a bunch of information--including discussions about how to ground (or not) a place built on bedrock (i.e., poor grounding).

Here is another thread where Solar Guppy discusses his experiences running Ungrounded Solar Panel Frames to lessen attraction of a strike in the first place.

My two cents, do not mix and match different lightning amelioration schemes... That can make things worse.
