Solar cell soldering & tabbing

I've discovered a way to save $$ on tabbing wire. I'll solder about 1" of tabbing wire to each of the two white conductive solar cell grids (negative side of the cells). The other ends get soldered onto only two positive connectors on bottom. 4x4 cells, poly-crystalline. When tested, produced the same amount of voltage as being soldered normally all the way through, however, with a question remaining, will it produce the same current/amperage ?
