Shunt question...

I just installed (3) Kyocera KD135GX-LPU panels, a Blue Sky solar boost 3024iL controller and an IPN-ProRemote in my RV. My questions are regarding the current shunt wiring as it relates to the IPN-ProRemote; (1) What is the purpose of the shunt and do I need to install it? If not, am I losing anything by not installing it?
As you can tell, this stuff isn't my strong suit, if I had one.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: Shunt question...
A shunt is basically a fixed or "known" resistance in series with wiring. As such, a meter can be wired to either side of it and carry and read a small, proportional amount of the total current. If your unit says it needs it, is needs it: there's no other way it will measure current. -
Re: Shunt question...
Thanks Marc, I appreciate the info. Installed the shunt yesterday so now the total installation is complete and I'm a happy camper.
