Schneider AGS with Schneider SW4048

My system includes a Schneider SW4048 inverter, a Midnight Solar 150 Charge Controller, the Schneider AGS auto gen start, a Generac Eco gen 6kw generator. I have wired the gen to the AGS using a type 14 generator with a 2 wire start configured as per instruction from Schneider. I can start the gen remotely ok. My question is that the system does not seem to provide a way to keep the generator start battery charged. When the battery is installed in the gen, it just discharges pretty quickly. My only solution after talking with a knowledgeable solar guy I know is to set up a separate charging system for that battery using a panel and an old simple charge controller I have. Schneider says the battery should stay charged, but can't seem to tell me how to do it. My older Xantrax inverter that I used prior to changing my system (from 12v to 48v) worked fine but that inverter, SW2512, used a third wire connected to a different relay from the gen to the inverter. Can anyone provide any info on this. Thanks

I tell folks to use a 10 watt or so solar panel to float the gen battery if they have solar access near the Genny?

Interesting that you are saying the old SW2512 would keep the gen battery charged? I do not remember that but that was long ago.  You are using the same gen now as back with the 2512 ?

Dave is right - using a separate panel is the sensible way to keep the gen set battery charged.

I've seen the inverter left on and used to run a battery charger hooked back up to the generator battery but in the winter that can be a good way to run down your main battery un-necessarily.
