Good morning:
Looking for advice for installing solar for a few off grid yurts in the rocky mountains. Deciding weather to go with propane vs solar?. Need to power a hot plate for cooking and a few lites. Our cousin and his wife have won the bid and have contracted with the Colorado state forest service to operate 7 yurts and two cabins all year round. The contractors are building the platforms and yurts starting June, him and I are going to install the beds, wood stove and either propane or solar. Any advice is much appreciated! Thx in advance! S.Lash

    Mountain weather in the Rockies?

Do both. If only one is the choice, you have to have back-up in winter and that is propane, generators, or prayer😉

Propane light that is permanently installed and a propane stove (not a portable) that is a permanent install. Anything that is portable will walk, from my experience. Remember to size the propane tanks for the evaporation rate for the coldest temps. and the expected demand load on the propane.
Solar for backup for lighting. Kind of the marine philosphy here. Having a back up to the the main system.

I just heard that it is cheaper to rent over buy in all 50 states. The point that the article stated was to look into the squatting laws for the state you will do any real estate business. The writer was saying his son was small enough to get in the doggie door and after 5 days the house was theirs in California.😉

Probably not an issue here but from experience, once you use electricity for any cooking, it will require an experienced user that cares. It definitely will be abused and since this is winter usage, you need to use propane for cooking.
