Vertical Turbine in Brussels

I was in Brussels a couple of weeks ago and saw this vertical turbine out by the NATO HQ building. It was spinning. Looks like its on the Toyota Motors compound. Its not mounted that high up. Maybe 20-30 feet to the bottom of the blades.

Just interesting to see since the general consensus is that they aren't worth the bother.

    From a mechanical standpoint, the perpendicular weight of the turbine is evenly distributed over the bearing race.  Would appear to have a longer bearing life vs the typical horizontal turbine design.

    Probably not as efficient but the offset is longer mechanical life.
