DIY Mini Wind Turbine

Can anyone please help me know, whether there are any generator motors which can output 5-24V15-Watt current, and small in size, around 2 inches.

I thought to buy RS-775, but I have a doubt whether I can use it for wind turbine, how many Watts it will output, and whether there are any better generator motors than RS-775 which can output 5-24V 15 Watt. Please Help. Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum BhanuShashanka,

Personally, unless you have some sort of very special need for a Wind Turbine design--I would highly suggest just using a solar panel.

Solar panels are relatively small, cheap, have predictable output over time, "weather proof",  and are reliable.

Wind Turbines usually require a tall tower (typically at least 10 meters tall minimum to get into Clean (Laminar) Air Flow (non-turbulent air flow). Wind Turbines do not work well in turbulent air flow (not very much "harvestable energy" in turbulent air).

It is also critical to match the blade (propeller) design to the motor/generator electrical specifications... I.e., this is a ~20,000 RPM maximum motor. A typical wind turbine is going to spin at 100's of RPMs. Will this motor generate enough "useful energy" at the propeller RPM. Let alone the issues of weather (will motor work in rain/wet/humid conditions), issues with shaft thrust from blades (many motors are not designed to withstand shaft thrust without wearing out quickly), and such.

About the only argument that seems to even come close to making sense for wind turbines is that they can generate power at night (do you have naturally occurring winds at night?) and during stormy weather. And then a wind turbine may be helpful to provide energy when the solar panels cannot (night, stormy weather).

You can probably find used solar panels for very cheap prices (or even free). An old 100 Watt solar panel will typically generate many times more energy than a small 20 Watt Wind Turbine, and generate it reliably/predictably almost every day. And a solar panel only needs to be mounted in a shade free location, not at the top of a 10 meter tower.

Most wind turbines are much larger than the 15-20 Watts you are asking about... Here are some wind power links. See if any have enough information for your design requirements:

Thanks Mr. Bill. It was very helpful. I'm not aware of wind turbines and solar, just wanted to do a little DIY.
