Reversed Polarity

As stated in an earlier post I put the wrong clips on a solar charger to a lawn tractor battery. This mistake reversed the polarity on the small battery and now positive pole is negative and negative pole is positive. This is just a cheap $30 battery so no big deal. My question is it advisable or even possible to re reverse the polarity to get it back to normal? Would the battery be any good after going through such a regiment? It is a couple of years old so would not be a great loss either way.
By the way, the mistake did not seem to damage the 10 watt solar panel. Is this because of the built in diode kept it from frying?

Battery will not be reliable. May "work" for a few days/weeks.
