Anybody use solar light kits that have a battery and a small panel?i saw one at sams club that had 3 LED lights and an on/off switch,seems like this would work?

Almost every one I have seen is junk. The individual ones have terrible NiCd batteries, the larger ones solar panels that are too small. I have used some of the little led individual ones, but have replaced the batteries with NiHi batteries with larger ah capacity. Even at that, only for temporary service in a spot with no other option.
