Computer monitoring for Sunny Boy?

I just bought a house that has a PV system install by the previous owner. The control module inside the garage is a Sunny Boy. There's a serial cable attached to some leads inside the box. I recall the previous owner mention that he had an old laptop hooked up to the Sunny Boy and he could do all sorts of data capture and tracking. Does this setup sound familiar to anyone? TIA.
