Experimentation with Tenergy TB6- Dua lBalancng Charger as Charge Controller

So its clear to me that Solar Charge Controllers for Li-Ion batteries and NiMh are ridiculously expensive.
I've been digging around doing some research and came across this charger balance controller used for RC type hobbies, a few modifications, and presto! Solar Charge Controller.
Down fall is it's max at 50watts, but I'm willing to bet with altering battery banks I can buy a few of these as they are $60 each, and the charger will accept between 11~18V DC for input.

Thoughts and opinions are recommended.
