When people think about solar, they often think about harvesting- how to gather the energy. “But there’s another side of the story that’s sometimes overlooked,” said Hongrui Jiang a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “How do you store it?” Bulky batteries or supercapacitors often accompany solar panels. Jiang wanted something smaller and more self-sustaining [...]The post UW Professor Designs Solar Cells that Store Energy...

Jiang’s design converts only 4 percent of sunshine that strikes the photoreceptor into usable electricity- about 20 percent less efficient than most commercial solar panels.

That is a really sad abuse of the common meaning of 20% less efficient!

Headline should read "UW Professor designs solar cells that are of no use whatsoever" because converting 4% of the energy and storing it is worthless. Two major downfalls of solar electric: inefficient panels, inefficient storage. So why would anyone want something that's worse than what we already have?

Another worthless RSS article about a PV panel for contact lenses with absolutely no scalability to solar electric power.

Right up there with the old groaner about US-USSR relations during the cold war:
There was a dual track meet between US and USSR. Afterward Pravda reported that the USSR came in second while the US was next to last.
