SW4048 Replacement?

I might as well ask the question: my in-laws' existing SW4048 works well except it won't recognize generator input when AC1 is down (I have another thread on this problem.) Assuming this unit is on the way out, what might possible replacements be?

It's mounted as part of a power panel, with an Outback AC box to the left, a Xantrex DC box on the right and a "power conditioner" box (required to satisfy UL1741) below it so space in the existing layout is constrained.

Are there direct replacements? Any 240AC units that might be more useful? (I'm throwing this out as only half the generator output is used to feed the 120V SW4048. I know about auto-transforming the output to increase current.)

I guess another option would be to run the generator through a transfer switch for after the batteries get low but this would involve manual switchover. Hmmm, unless they get rid of the batteries and replace the entire existing setup with transfer switch and grid-tie inverter.

Thoughts, comments, etc. appreciated!
