Conduit required per NEC in walls?
System

I am planning on taking the output of my array (2 EC-102 panels, wired for 24volt) to the basement via a 6/3 insulated cable. Is conduit required for this installation if the wires are to be inside a finished wall?

Re: Conduit required per NEC in walls?
i don't see the need on the inside as long as it is routed through existing walls, but that on the exterior or in the attic i would have it encased in conduit. where the wire exits the basement wall should either be a utility box or an outlet for a plug, otherwise encase the wire again in conduit until it reaches the controller. it may be easier to keep it totally encased for the entire run rather than in sections. -

I'm no NEC expert, but I think the answer is "it depends". Check with NEC Section 690.31 (2005 or later) and the requirements PV source circuits, interior wiring runs, metal conduit and interior PV disconnects. This article from John Wiles may be useful.
