Wire and Fuse for the 24v Inverter??

I decided to go with 24v inverter for my setup.. the Samlex PST-1000 Watt Pure Sine manual says..

PST-100S-12A AWG # 2 for upto 4 feet and a 200A fuse/breaker..
PST-100S-24A AWG # 8 for upto 4 feet and a 100A fuse/breaker..

Does this mean I can safely use AWG #8 if going less than 2' to the inverter and still get the proper battery draw?? or should I stick with my plan to use AWG #2 wire??? and if so will I still be using a 100A fuse/breaker on the #2 wire???

This is the line that applies to your 24 Volt inverter (he other is for the 12 Volt version):

By my reckoning the 1 kW inverter (surge to 2 kW probably) would draw about 40 Amps on 24 Volts at maximum output. With the surge and minimum Voltage factored in you get the 100 Amp fuse/breaker size. 8 AWG would be a minimum wire size. 6 AWG would be better. You can use larger wire (especially for longer runs) to reduce V-drop. You really don't want longer runs if possible. Do not change the fuse size regardless if using larger wire.
