big turbine integration

anyone know exactly how huge turbines control the flow of juice out..??? is it a thermistor?? that would build up current until it let it go thru...??
and the voltage would have to be slightly above line voltage to work ,no??? just curious

Simplified version - - when the voltage produced by the turbine gets higher than the grid voltage and there's enough wind to maintain that voltage under load, contactors close and the higher voltage causes current flow out into the grid.
