Any problem leaving solar panels disconnected from a battery bank/controller?

I am installing a set of panels and have not completed the wireing and got thinking about the panels producing power and having nothing connected. They are already bolted to the roof...

    No problem at all. Just make sure the ends of the cables don't make intermittent contact, as that could start an arc, resulting in a fire. It might be safest to short out the output from the PVs until you're actually using them. That way, there will be no loose and uncontrolled voltages hanging around to cause trouble. That won't harm the PVs either.

    Technically, it's not a problem. The panels will operate in "open circuit" mode of relatively high voltage but zero current.

    From a safety perspective, a PV module's shorted conductors can produce sparks and burns. Additionally, the temperature of PV modules can exceed 140 F on a warm day. So, you do want to be very careful while working on/around PV modules exposed to sunlight.
