batt bank to cc to smaller bank?

Kind of a side question really. Losses aside, could you have a 48v bank and have a CC that used the bank as the input to charge a 24v bank? Or 12v for that matter? Just curious if it could be done. I understand it would need to be a MPPT controller.

You probably have to double check with the Mfg... But, for example, the:
Morningstar SunSaver 15 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller
Has been used by a few people here for charging 12/24 volt battery banks just fine. Put a fuse on the input (sized to wiring/input maximum rated current) for safety (battery has much more current available that a small solar array).

fuse the output too and not just the input as the batteries on either side of the cc could short. put them as close to the batteries as you can.
