Remote display goes blank during storms

I have a C40 DVM that goes blank when ever a thunderstorm passes. The system is grounded per code.
If I remove the DVM from the gang box, unplug the RJ remote cable from the PCB and reinsert it the display comes back to normal. The saved data accumulated amp hours are cleared to read zero.
I checked and cleaned all grounding points from the solar panels to the grounding rod.
I think the RJ remote cable is attracting static electricity from the storms.
Any ideas?
Ground the C40 PCB?
