    Yes, for an exciting half a second, then things burn up.

    So, actually, no.   Sorry.  Draw a sketch, you will be wiring a dead short across your battery when you connect the ground cable to both the + and the - terminals.   Boom !!

    You do understand that a + ground does not mean the cable has to be grounded to a chassis you would still connect + to + and - to -. and in theory they should work if there is no electrical connection between the controller frames.
