What is the Array voltage in the link for the speadsheet below? What value is that? Where does it come from?

Re: Array Voltage in - Voltage Drop Calculator spreadsheet

It would be the Voltage Max Power of the series total of your PV's

Say you have a PV rated at 19.2V max power, and you have 5 in series for a 48V battery bank. Array voltage would be 96 (19.2x5)

    Helpful ?

    read your other posting

19.9 x 5 = 99V I use max power voltage, because that provides the max current, which is where your max voltage drop would be found.

Re: Array Voltage in - Voltage Drop Calculator spreadsheet

    OK, that helped.

    I want a 12vdc system, I have a Morningstar SL20 - 20amp/12vdc controller and
    12vdc battery bank.

It would be best to hook my solar panel in parallel?

my array voltage would then be 19.8 volts, CORRECT?

each panel max current produced 6.55 A

max voltage to morningstar is 30Volts

max solar input to morningstar is 20 amps

Re: Array Voltage in - Voltage Drop Calculator spreadsheet

the array voltage is what the closest voltage would be for multiples of 12v to be used with common battery multiples. for example a pv with a vmp of 17.4v could apply to a 12v battery, but is not high enough for a 24v battery. this makes the pv suitable for 12v batteries and therefor be it 1 pv of that voltage, 10 of them of that voltage, or even 100 of them in parallel of that voltage, it would be an array of 12v pvs. the exact voltage was not utilized with it being rounded downward and this also applied to the batteries. they will be 6, 12v, 24, 36v, 48v, etc and if one took the cell voltages literally then it may be something like a 12.5v battery or a 25v battery and that is not constant as it will change depending on charge state. other considerations were taken into account in doing things this way and if one would have something oddball. then it could still be entered.

So, my array voltage would then be 19.8 volts, CORRECT?

And your max amps would be 6.55 + 6.55 = 13.1 since in parallel,
AMPS are added (series, volts are added)

But I did not create the spreadsheet, so I'm possibly wrong. Mike

    array voltage is 12v.
