Out Back equalizing question

Hi To All,

I was wondering if someone could tell me if you have to initiate equalization through the MX 60 And the mate separately. I believe the last time my installer was here, that is what he told me. I thought ,for me it would be easier just to start it at the Mx 60. I'm slightly intimidated by the Mate, "dont want to mess anything up.

Also I thought I would check with you all on my equalization setting. 60.5 Volts for 2 hours. I have 8 trojan 6 volt batteries to power my 48 volt system.

BY the way I'm equalizing the batteries right now and have set it up at the MX 60 and the mate.

Thanks,
offgridkid

    OGK,

You can start the MX60’s EQ cycle via the MX or via the Mate. Use the MX’ EQ screen to set up and start/stop an EQ cycle, either automatically or manually. Alternately, pressing the Mate’s “AC In” hot button four times will bring up the Global Charger Mode, which includes the EQ function.

Trojan’s recommended voltage settings for their flooded-cell batteries are as follows:
    Daily Charge (Absorb): 59.2 V
    Float: 52.8 V
    EQ: 62.0 V
    Ref: http://www.trojanbattery.com/BatteryMaintenance/Charging.aspx

However, these settings are based on a reference battery temperature of 80 F (26.67 C). Normalizing for the OutBack MX60 charge controller’s 77 F (25 C) reference temperature, the equivalent MX charger settings should be:
    Daily Charge (Absorb): 59.4 V
    Float: 53.0 V
    EQ: 62.2 V
On the other hand, Morningstar’s TriStar charge controller manual contains a very interesting section on charging L16 flooded-cell batteries. See sections 9.3 and 4.2: http://www.morningstarcorp.com/en/support/library/TS.IOM.Operators_Manual.03.EN.pdf
