Does a 5 year old KID controller need a firmware  update?? if so... does it have to be powered up to do it?
If its not connected to anything can you hook it up to a 12 volt battery to do it?? Do you need any fuse in it for that??It has internal fuses on the front.
do you have to select the 12 volt battery option in battery set up before you can do it.??

    Hello ws...,

Here is the info from the MidNite Solar site:
    http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmwareReport.php?firmware_ID=13&firmwareProduct_ID=4&act=edit

YES,  the KID does need to be powered-up.
YES,  nothing needs to be connected to the KID,  except the battery.
Any battery voltage can be used,   but am sure that whatever battery voltage is used,  it should be selected before the FW Update.

The battery fuse should (probably) be in place,  but,  the PV or Load fuses should not be required.

The FW Update is simple,   as it has been a drag-and-drop from the Update GUI.

    FWIW,   Good Luck,   Vic

It seems to me the first question is important.

Does a 5 year old Kid (it's been that long!?) need a firmware update? If it does what you bought it to do, why should you need to do anything?

My Beta KID is just four years old.

YES,   there have been many improvements and bug-fixes in the KID FW.

Would strongly suggest that the FW UD be done,   it is simple.

    FWIW,  IMO,    Vic

there is a fuse on the front of the KID that says BAT. I assume that is a 30 amp fuse in case the 30 amp breaker doesnt trip..
    is that correct??

    Hi ws..,

YES,   that should be correct,  believe that the fuse rating is 30 A,   and it is there for safety.

Here is a short Video of Updating the Firmware on the KID CC from the MidNite Solar site:

Update?  Yes, there is one strange issue that has been fixed in the FW, mostly prevalent in Beta KIDS, called WOOD-PECKERING where the KID goes rat--a-tat-a-tatat continuously..
There are a few threads here on the BB...
