First Negative Electric Bill!

We had our first negative electric bill this month!

Our solar array isn't large enough to give us 100% net zero usage, so most months we will have at least a small power bill. But for a couple months in the spring (before the A/C) and fall (before the furnace) we can enjoy having Xcel Energy owe us money.

Yours is a little more difficult to achieve.

Unless the system operation into the grid can achieve, 95% conversion efficiency @ 110% above last years annualized plus 10% added as a buffer for the 100Ah lithium battery system. Your system will probably be floating somewhere in tier 1 between $40~$5 during the summer months. $100~$50 during the winter months.

Summer solstice is over so trying to make those numbers now, if it doesn't happen it won't happen through its life time.

Battery systems typically don't see an ROI until year 16 or 18 before ROI. While grid tied systems built at 95% conversion into grid without hybrid batteries see ROI by year 10. My clients see their return on year 8 before fed tax credit, or I simply don't build it.

I would be hopeful that July and August would be negative as I generate more than I use. The excess should be generating a credit. ... Unfortunately, POCO hasn't reprogrammed the power meter, so, no credit.

Of course what really matters is the sum of the next 12 months. As for long term returns, well, we chose the hybrid route to give the ability to improve our independence to future fluctuations in grid performance.
