can the classic cc charge at any single volt or is it only every 6 volt intervals...like could it charge at 31 volts if you asked it to..??

    It can most certainly charge at 31 volts. Are you charging lead acid batteries? 31 is a common equalization voltage, but a little high for absorb. The Classic has temp compensation. If your batteries are cold, the voltages will automatically increase. You can set an absolute voltage limit that temp compensation cannot exceed.

    Speaking of high charging voltages... The Classic is a work in progress. The Midnite folks will release a firmware update that allows constant current finish charging. This is something that is common among grid powered battery chargers, but is something that RE chargers and controllers do NOT do. Basically, near the end of charging you apply a constant current charge for a short time. The voltage may shoot up very high for a brief time. High enough to shut down your inverter.

    This type of charging is common, for example, with forklift battery chargers. While charging a forklift battery there are no loads or other chargers connected to the battery. Therefore the charger knows how much current is going into the battery, and can regulate that current.

    The Midnite WhizbangJr attaches to a battery shunt and allows the Classic to know what is going into or out of the battery (despite other loads or charging sources). Right now, that info allows the classic to terminate absorb by using 'end amps', more tricks to come in future firmware updates.

    Sure it can. While you do have to set a nominal battery voltage in 12v increments, you can also set the absorb and float values in 0.1v increments. Hence you could say if you had 2v cells remove a failed one, reduce the setpoints by the required couple of volts and be on your way again.

    in 12v increments..??? most 48v want about 51 full charge... so the float can be added onto 48??

    Hi ws,

    YES, zoneblue was noting the NOMINAL battery voltages: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, & 72 volts for the Classic 150 - 250. For the Classic 250 KS THE battery voltage is 120 V.

    These are the Nominal voltages. So for a 48 V system, with Flooded batteries, the Absorb voltage would be about 57.5 or so V, and Float about 52.5 to 53.5 v etc.

    These Nominal voltage settings will affect the Default voltages, but there is a wide latitude of what the user is able to set on the Classic CCs.

    I am not certain if ANY voltage whatsoever, in tenths of a volt increment, continuously from 11 V to 80 something, but it is likely that the Classic will accept this range.

    Perhaps you might ask an exact question, regarding a specific type of battery, or perhaps exactly what you are interested in doing with the Classic.

    Yes, vic's spot on. You dont need to worry, if your setpoitns are too far from the nominal bat voltage the controller will go into sleep mode and complain about "insane" setpoints.
