I picked up these up for song as they were miss ordered. 30ah 1.2v cells. I have em wired 9s10p for 270 ah at 12v. Which is about as much as a dadgum interstate Marine batt. This is just an experimental "power pod" semi mobile with 1k genny for various off grid applications and I can't imagine a scenario where this giant bank wouldn't out perform a single Marine battery. Anyone have a guess how these will perform or better at math than me....not a difficult task...thanks
900 watts pv (building on) on poles, off grid 60a mppt, magnum 2k 12v msw, 1400 ah forklift battery (rewired to 12v), 8k diesel gen for house. honda eu6500, 2x 8D, coleman 800w inv for shop, honda 5k for well (pumps to 1000g cistern), ryobi 2k suitcase for mobile ops.

    Shouldn't that be 9p10s for 270ah at 12v?
    Off-grid.

Yeah, typing on my phone sorry. Plus I'm pretty new to all this. This will coupled with a cheep 2k inverter, Honda 1k for charging (optional wall plug) all on a wheelie cart so I can tow with my quad or toss on my rv trailer for a back up bank etc.

they look like 'wet NiCd" cells especially at 1.2V/cell. what is the date stamp? Were they stored fully or partially charged? What brand are they? what charger did you get?
    more later

They are new, they come zero'd out for lack of a better term. I built a 12v 10 cell one to compare against these three: interstate deep Cycle marine, 110 ah agm,  two trojan L16 6v. 400w 20 minute burn side by side. They did well with testing prerun, during, after and 20 minutes after. Of course the two Trojans won, but they came in a very close third, basically tied with the green top interstate. I will complete the bank and test it but I'm curious to see if anyone has messed with them. I charged the 12v ten cell with a rolly car charger. It did very well these batteries are very tuff ans from what I've read can take a charge with most anything,  safely of course.

i hope those are tinned copper bus bars, and not aluminum, which will oxidixe quickly.

Well it's an experiment so I guess I'll figure that out the hard way. I assumed being nicd I could use aluminum. Least till I decide if they work being I can't get any real information on them.

What were they 'brought in' for, what application? the ones I have are > 30 yrs old and were from a FM car radio repeater site app, and are tough like nails!  they can be refilled with Lye solution and 'rejuvenated' when they fail.
Any ideas about maker? SAFT ?

Tough as nails they are, tend to gather crud on the terminals but easily washed away with water, can dump the electrolyte flush with distilled water and refill with new electrolyte. They have a voltage  cascade effect when used close to their capacity, voltage collapses rapidly as apposed to lead acid being more gradual, they tend to be better suited to low discharge currents and standby use such as telecom rather than high current cyclical use, but treat them well, they will give long service , have seen them used in railway signaling with 50 years service as standby, mind  you they were glass, not plastic. Disposal is a problem though, but if they outlast you.......well.

test results are as follows. each battery got a ten minute 330w burn on an inverter. numbers are starting voltage, midway, final and ten minutes after.
    interstate marine......12.8/11.9/12.03/12.75
    ub12110...................12.98/10.2/12.05/12.80
    frankenbattery..........13.32/13.29/13.32/13.32

YEAH!!! I like it...the two other batteries are a bit used, but the interstate was in top serviceable parameters.

Can you find out the time period that the 30Ah is for? 5 Hr? 10Hr? 20Hr? 24 Hr?
alternately you could rig up a 30A load on one string of 10  and follow it till it starts to drop off quickly...

    1.2v/30ah/1hr/80deg/.95v

I'v had a tv, xbox, blender and heat gun runnin off em for an hour or more and they are at 13,45 right now. pretty impressed. also impressed with this 180$ pure sine wave 2k inverter from the amazons. with all the above mentioned running i plugged in a drill and ran it, then i plugged in a second heat gun, the killer was my 50's worm drive...lol FAULT. turned it off and on, all good.

    went to SAFT site http://www.saftbatteries.com/battery-search/sble-sbm-sbh-block-battery

then down to page 14, and tried to figure out the approx 20 or 10 hr rating,  Looks like SAFT uses C5 as their standard rating period  so I looked for 30Ahr for 1 hr,
You might be able to cross ref by weight and size to determine a close approx of the more standard rating...
    enjoy.

another link may be better as single cell...http://www.saftbatteries.com/battery-search/sph
