You need some sort of DC disconnect as a place to accommodate the primary buses and circuit protection. Exactly how big a disco really depends on how much stuff you need to put in it. A Bigbaby box might be suitable for a small couple of  panel system. But once you need an inverter breaker of any size that puts you into MNDC or epanel territory.
